• Became Nazareth's first men's basketball coach in 1977 and assisted in making the Golden Flyers a formidable team in their very first season
• Helped Nazareth to a 15-4 record in its first season, then a 14-8 mark and a berth in the NAIA District 31 playoffs in 1978-79
• In the program's second season, Gigliotti led the Golden Flyers to victories over established Division III programs such as Alfred, Brockport, Elmira, Geneseo, RIT, and St. John Fisher
• Led Nazareth to a record of 18-7 and another NAIA Tournament berth in 1980-81
• Compiled a record of 69-47 in his five seasons
• Said then-president Robert A. Kidera: "(Joe) single-handedly built the men's intercollegiate basketball program at Nazareth -- going from nothing to a real contender among our peer institutions."
