• A steady and fundamentally sound player, Van Gundy led Nazareth to a 22-6 record and an NCAA East Regional title in 1984
• Led Nazareth to Chase Tournament titles in 1984 and 1985, earning all-tournament team honors each time
• Graduated as career record holder for free throw acccuracy, making 132 of 152 attempts (86.8 percent)
• Ranks among all-time leaders in several statistical categories, including field goal percentage (.569) and assists (251)
• Named to ECAC all-star team and NABC East District all-star team in 1985
• After more than six years as an assistant, Van Gundy was named head coach of the NBA's New York Knicks March 8, 1996
