PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The Golden Flyers' men's track and field team traveled to St. John Fisher for the Cardinal Classic on Saturday. Jack Pomykaj was one of Nazareth's top performers after placing second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.92 seconds. Pomykaj's time ranks fifth on Nazareth's Top-10 list. Coming into Saturday, his previous best, which he ran at Fisher in May 2024, was 16.04 seconds.
Following Pomykaj in the 110-meter hurdles was Aaron Lund, who placed fourth in the event with a time of 16.36 seconds. Lund added a 21st-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles after completing the race with a time of 1:01.44.
In the 4x100-meter relay, Nazareth's team of Mike Welch, Ben Lewis, Jack Healy, and Jaylen Savage was eighth with a time of 43.45 seconds. Welch also competed in the individual 100-meter sprint. He placed 19th with a time of 11.31 seconds. Solomon McFarlane was 53rd (11.86 seconds), and Holden Thomas was 66th (12.09 seconds).
In the 200-meter sprint, Welch was 27th after crossing the line in 23.28 seconds. McFarlane was 32nd with a time of 23.46 seconds, followed by Joey Nettles in 35th with a time of 23.65 seconds. Nettles and Thomas ran the 400-meter sprint and placed 39th and 58th, respectively. Nettles had a time of 53.45 seconds, and Thomas had a time of 57.07 seconds.
The Golden Flyers had five runners race in the 800-meter event. Joseph Cataldo was the top finisher in 31st (2:01.29), followed by Cole Hastings in 38th (2:02.33), Brennan Farr in 46th (2:03.84), Thuan Nguyen in 61st (2:06.54), and Anthony Dumas in 100th (2:21.64).
Ethan Kenyon led Nazareth runners in the 1,500-meter run; he crossed the line with a time of 4:12.35 for 37th place. Cam Almy was 57th with a time of 4:16.47, followed by Connor Jackson in 68th with a time of 4:20.53, and Yosef Mahamoud was 99th with a time of 4:55.85.
Antonio Benitez capped the track events with a 16th-place finish in the 5,000-meter run after crossing the finish line in 15:59.41.
In field events, Graeden Heichberger was fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 51.48 meters (168' 11"). His throw (51.89 meters, 170' 3") at Lynchburg earlier this season still ranks second on Nazareth's Top-10 list. Dominic Wolff, who is fifth on the all-time list, improved on his previous best of 43.42 meters (142' 5") when he recorded a throw of 44.59 meters (146' 3") to place 21st in the event. Connor Rinas placed 27th in the event with a throw of 41.46 meters (136' 0").
Heichberger was also a top performer in the shot put where he finished sixth with a throw of 14.35 meters (47' 1"). Also in throwing events, Rinas and David Dobrowolski competed in the discus. Rinas was 25th with a throw of 34.83 meters (114' 3"), and Dobrowolski was 31st with a throw of 33.74 meters (110' 8").
A trio of Golden Flyers competed in the pole vault. Pomykaj led the Nazareth vaulters with a height of 4.2 meters (13' 9 ¼") to place 13th. Nolan Armitage tied for 16th with a height of 4.05 meters (13' 3 ½") on his second attempt. Nathan Sinclair reached the same height on his third attempt to place 18th.
In addition to his track events, Thomas competed in the javelin. He finished 23rd with a throw of 33.16 meters (108' 9").
The Golden Flyers are in action again next weekend when Nazareth competes at the Empire 8 Outdoor Championships May 2nd-3rd at Brockport.
