PITTSFORD, NY – Senior Brenna Johnson, sophomore Lea Richard and graduate student Anna Ahlquist continued to shine for the Nazareth College Women's Track and Field team with first place finishes in their respective events Saturday at the Cardinal Classic meet at St. John Fisher.
Johnson was the top runner in the 400 meter race with a personal best time of 58.02. Johnson was also third in the long jump and helped the 4x100 relay to a second place finish.
Richard was first in the hammer throw with a heave of 41.92 meters (137' 6"). She was also seventh in the shot put and eighth in the discus.
Ahlquist won the pole vault competition as she cleared the height of 3.50 meters (11' 5 ¾").
Freshman MacKenzie Gilligan was second in the 100 hurdles with a 16.01 PR time and was also second in the high jump with another PR as she cleared 1.55 meters (5' 1").
Johnson led three top Nazareth finishers in the 400 as graduate student Abbey Szumloz was second with a time of 1:00.53 and sophomore Isabella Heath was fifth in 1:02.58.
Freshman Riley Norris was fourth in the 100 with a wind-aided time of 13.00. Her 13.19 time in the preliminaries was a personal best effort.
Graduate student Elizabeth Decker was second in the 800 with a time of 2:22.44 while a trio of runners had top finishes in the 1500. Junior Emily Weaver was third in the 1500 with a time of 5:04.69, freshman Peyton Tripp was seventh in 5:19.36 and sophomore Paige Ackley was eighth in 5:19.56.
Junior Megan Morin took third in the 10K (40:48.23) and sophomore Lilianna Hanning was fifth in 41:03.73.
Junior Sydney Vanderhoof ran fifth in the 100 hurdles (16.47), sophomore Lauren Bendall was fourth (1:10.14) and fellow sophomore Hannah Ragule was seventh (1:13.40) in the 400-meter hurdles.
The top relays were in the 4x100 as Johnson, Norris, Ragule and Szumloz ran second in 51.55 and the team of Heath, Ackley, freshman Ruth DeSanctis and sophomore Leigha Gould took fourth in the 4x400 with a time of 4:31.24.
Junior Sarah Merriwether was third in the triple jump with a distance of 10.26 meters (33'8") and fellow junior McKenzie Leahey was sixth with a 10.11 (32' 11 ¾"). Merriwether was also fifth in the javelin with a PR throw of 25.21 (82' 8").
Senior Ally Criswell was fourth in the discus (33.38 meters – 109' 6"), eighth in the hammer throw (32.47 – 106' 6") and fourth in the javelin (25.86 – 84' 10").
Nazareth will compete at the Penn Relays and the University of Rochester next weekend.
