GENESEO, N.Y. – Junior
Brenna Johnson competed Saturday in the long jump for the first time and placed fourth as Nazareth continued its outdoor track and field season at the Geneseo "It's Gonna Be May" Meet.
Johnson leaped 5.10 meters (16 feet, 8 ¾ inches) and was among the Golden Flyers' top performers. She also put together a personal-best time of :26.25 to finish fifth in the 200-meter dash and ran in a pair of relays.
Nazareth finished third in the 4 x 100-meter relay (:51.33) with the foursome of
Alexa Rizzo, Johnson,
Hannah Ragule and
Abbey Szumloz. Nazareth was sixth in the 4 x 400-meter relay (4:05.72) with the team of
Elizabeth Decker, Szumloz, Johnson and
Claire Bargabos.
Szumloz also had a personal-best time in the 100-meter hurdles with a sixth-place time of :16.46. Sophomore
Emily Weaver had a top time of 5:01.48 in the 1,500-meter run to finish ninth and junior
Elizabeth Decker ran 2:24.22 in the 800-meter run to finish seventh.
Other top competitors included freshman
Lea Richard, who was sixth in the hammer throw (41.76 meters / 137 feet) and 10
th in the discus (28.33 meters / 92 feet, 11 inches); junior
Gabrielle Pighetti, who was fifth in the shot put (10.75 meters / 35 feet, 3 ¼ inches) and eighth in the hammer throw (37.65 meters / 123 feet, 6 inches); senior
Taylor Woltz, who was seventh in the pole vault (2.91 meters / 9 feet, 6 ½ inches); Ragule, who was 10
th in the 400-meter hurdles (1:11.82); freshman
Lauren Bendall, who was eighth in the 400-meter dash (1:03.77); sophomore
Alexis Anagnostopulos, who was third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:46.43); and freshman
Paige Ackley, who was fourth in the steeplechase (13:04.29); sophomore
Sarah Merriwether, who placed sixth in the high jump (4 feet, 9 3/4 inches).
Saturday's meet served as a tune-up for the Golden Flyers, who will be competing Friday and Saturday at the Empire 8 Conference Championships at St. John Fisher.
