BROCKPORT, NY – Junior Maria Staehr won the 400-meter race and combined with nine other top-5 finishes to lead the Nazareth College women's track and field team to a third place finish at the Brockport Thursday Night meet in the Special Events and Recreation Center (SERC).
Staehr was the top finisher in the 400-meter race with her winning time of 1:03.08 and freshman Hayley Cronin was a second place finisher in the 5K race with her time of 19:27.26 to lead the Golden Flyers.
Nazareth finished third in the team standings with 76 points. Brockport won the meet with 243 ½ points and Daemen College was second (86 points). The Golden Flyers finished ahead of RIT (60.5), St. John Fisher (59), Alfred (25), Geneseo (24), Roberts Wesleyan (13), Fredonia (6) and Mansfield (0) in the team standings.
Other top finishers for the Golden Flyers included Alycia Eaton who was third in the 200-meter race and took fourth in the long jump. Cronin combined with Dierdre Brett, Kelly Artini and Kaitlyn Dobbertin to place third in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:34.47.
Brenna Johnson was fourth in the 60-meters (8.33) and sixth in the 200 (27.79) while Dobbertin added an 11th place finish in the 800-meters. Lydia Dewart led the Golden Flyers in the 800 with a fourth place finish and Brett was sixth and Claire Bargabos was ninth in the race.
Gabrielle Pighetti took third in the shot put with a toss of 11.72 meters (38' 5 ½") and Ally Criswell took 10th in the event. Grace Blankenberg was fourth in the weight throw and Bailey Robinson was 9th. Eaton was fourth in the long jump while Kathleen Irwin took fifth and Sara Thomas placed sixth for Nazareth.
Thomas added an eighth place finish in the high jump while Madison Sabourin was sixth and Juliana Bunnell was eighth in the 60 meters for the Golden Flyers.
Nazareth will finish the regular season at the RIT Invitational Feb. 16 and compete in the Empire 8 Championships Feb. 22-23 at Utica.
