Cortland, N.Y. (nazathletics.com) – Nazareth's women's golf team made the trip to Cortland Country Club to take part in the Martin and Wallace Spring Invitational, a two-day event hosted by the SUNY Cortland Red Dragons that welcomed 9 other schools. Through day one, the Golden Flyers find themselves in 7th place with a combined team score of 406 (+200). Leading going into Sunday is the Ithaca College Bombers (315, +109).
How It Happened
- Sophomore Bethany Wineburg led Nazareth with a round one score of 82 (+10), earning her the 8th position on the individual leaderboard with a chance to climb in a tight-knit grouping at the top. She carded pars on 9 of 18 holes, including 4 in a row on holes 15-18.
- Senior Kara Kopyt recorded a score of 102 (+30) through 18, good for 34th overall and second among Nazareth golfers. She sank 4 pars on the day and added 5 single bogeys.
- Nazareth's third lowest scorer was junior Sabrina Schultz, who carded a 110 (+38) to take 38th place overall. Her round was highlighted by a trio of par 3 holes where she came out even.
- Freshman Abigail Denz rounded out the Nazareth squad, placing just one spot behind Schultz in 39th overall. She scored a 112 (+40) on day one highlighted by a 319-yard 10th hole that saw her go up and down for par.
What's Next
The Golden Flyers will return to Cortland Country Club on Sunday for the second and final day of the Martin and Wallace Spring Invitational, where they will look to build and improve on their opening day performances.
