Individual Scores
CLIFTON PARK, NY- The Nazareth women's golf team competed in the Northeast Women's Golf Conference championship Sunday and Monday afternoon at the Van Patten Golf Club in Clifton Park. The Golden Flyers faced tough competition from SUNY Cortland, St. John Fisher, SUNY Geneseo, Utica, and Albertus Magnus. Nazareth finished the tournament placing in fourth with a total team score of +183.
How it Happened:
ROUND 1 -
- The Golden Flyers were highlighted from the play of sophomore Bethany Wineburg who finished the first round tied in second place. Wineburg notched 10 pars through 18 holes. Her effort was highlighted in the back nine as she finished shooting only three above par to give her a round one score of +11.
- Senior Grace Colangelo finished her first round shooting +25 over par. Colangelo recorded nine bogeys to help keep Nazareth afloat on the leader board. Colangelo remained consistent throughout 18 holes, recording +13 on the front nine and +12 on the back nine.
- Senior Kara Kopyt finished the round ranked 27th. Following closely behind her was Freshman Abigail Denz who finished ranked at 28th. Kopyt finished the first round shooting +27 over par. She would had two pars on the front and back nine. Kopyt would also recorded eight bogeys. Denz finished the first round shooting +37 over par. She would finish with a strong back nine shooting even at par and recording three single bogeys.
- Junior Sabrina Schultz finished the first round with a +44. She would rank 31st to end the first day of play. She highlighted 3 bogeys in a row on the third, fourth, and fifth hole.
ROUND 2-
- The Golden Flyers entered round two of competition looking to overcome Cortland, Fisher, and Geneseo who oversaw the top three spots. The Golden Flyers would improve their score from day one as they finished the round with a +83 which was 17 strokes better than the +100 they finished with on Sunday.
- Wineburg continued to shine for Nazareth as she finished tied in second place individually. Wineburg finished round two shooting +8. Her day was highlighted with a birdie on the 17th hole.
- Colangelo improved her round one score as well, shooting four strokes better than she did in round 1. Colangelo finished the tournament in 19th place. Colangelo would record the first birdie for the Golden Flyers in the tournament on the first hole. She recorded 10 bogeys and two pars to finish with a score of +21 on the round and a +46 overall.
- Denz would improve her round 1 score as well as she shot 10 strokes better than she did in the first round. Denz had a strong front nine notching five bogeys and shooting a 48 (+12). She would finish strong on the back nine ending the second round with a score of 99 (+27).
- Schultz had a strong round two performance. Schultz shot a +27 over par which was 17 strokes better than her round one score. She had four pars and recorded four bogeys as well. She finished the tournament ranked 31st.
- Kopyt finished the second round with a score of 102 (+30). Her day was highlighted by recording two pars and recording six bogeys. She would place 27th overall.
What's Next:
With the conclusion of the NWGC tournament, the Golden Flyers conference play has come to an end, however, the 2025-2026 campaign will continue for Nazareth as they will host the Morgan's Message - Nazareth Spring Invitational Monday April 27th at the Brook-Lea Country Club in Rochester, NY for their last tournament of the academic season.
