Caledonia, NY (nazathletics.com) – The Nazareth women's golf team teed off in their season-opening tri-match against SUNY Geneseo and St. John Fisher on Saturday. The Golden Flyers took 2nd place in the match with a team score of +83. St. John Fisher took the win, scoring a team total of +56.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- First-year golfer Emily Mayer put on an impressive performance in her first collegiate event. She carded an 81 (+9), placing in a tie for first overall on the individual leaderboard. Her round was highlighted by a 7-hole bogeyless streak on the back nine that included a birdie on 11.
- Junior Bethany Wineburg was Nazareth's second lowest scorer, turning in a 92 (+20) to claim 7th place individually on the day. She recorded 4 pars and sank a birdie on hole 8.
- Sophomore Abigail Denz scored a 97 (+25) aided by 4 pars. She took 10th place overall and was 3rd among Golden Flyers.
- Sophomore Lainie Liberatore finished the round in 13th place after carding a 101 (+29). Her best hole came on the 6th, where she birdied a 485-yard par 5.
- First year Savanna Warfield came in 14th in her first contest as a Golden Flyer. She turned in a 103 (+31).
- Senior Sabrina Schultz scored a pair of pars in her round, helping her finish the day tied for 17th with a score of 110 (+38).
- Junior Marley Ohl (IND) rounded out the squad for Nazareth. She placed 20th and turned in a score of 115 (+43), highlighted by a par on hole 5.
WHAT'S NEXT
Nazareth's women's golf team will be back in action on Sunday, September 20th through Monday September 21st for the Utica Fall Invitational hosted at Yahnundasis Golf Club in New Hartford, New York.
