Women’s Golf Finish 7th in Cortland

Cortland, N.Y. (nazathletics.com) – Nazareth's women's golf team, fresh off of a win at the Keuka Invitational earlier in the week, closed out their weekend at the Martin and Wallace Spring Invitational hosted by SUNY Cortland on Sunday. They put on an almost identical team performance on closing day as they did on day one, carding a combined team total of +119 (compared to a +118 on Saturday). While the day saw fewer pars from the Golden Flyers, they put together 15 more single bogeys and their first birdie of the event to culminate in a consistent Sunday team round.

How It Happened
  • Sophomore Bethany Wineburg sank Nazareth's first and only birdie of the tournament on a par-5 hole number 4. She added 4 pars to the mix to come in at 86 (+14) on the day, which, combined with her day-one performance, earned her a 10th place finish individually. Wineburg finishes her time in Cortland with a two-day total of 168 (+24).
  • Coming in 33rd place overall was senior Kara Kopyt, who shot a 104 (+32) on day two. Her performance was powered by 9 single bogeys on 18 holes, including 5 in a row on the back nine.
  • Freshman Abigail Denz's play saw a tremendous improvement from day one, coming in 9 strokes better and carding a 103 (+31) on the day. She managed two pars (holes 7 and 15) as well as 8 single bogeys this time around Cortland Country Club, and finished the invitational in 36th overall.
  • Junior Sabrina Schultz turned in a day-two score of 114 (+42), highlighted by pars on 8 and 13, two holes she also shot even on day one. She added 4 bogeys and, after 36 holes of play, claimed 40th place overall on the individual leaderboard.

What's Next
The Golden Flyers will look to regroup before traveling to Clifton Park, New York, where they will take part in the Northeast Women's Golf Conference Championship. The two-day tournament will kick off on Sunday, April 19th at Van Patten Golf Club.
