ROCHESTER, NY – Junior
Lea Richard smashed her own school record in the hammer throw by over three feet to highlight the women's track and field squad at the St. John Fisher Cardinal Classic on Saturday. Richard had a mark of 50.37 meters (165 feet, 3 inches) to finish in first place. Her previous best was 47.23 meters (154 feet, 11 inches). She was was also 13
th in the discus at 31.18 meters (103 feet and 1 inch) and 19
th in the shot put at 10.34 meters (33 feet, 11 ¼ inches).
Nazareth had two top 10 finishers in the long jump, headlined by
Brenna Johnson jumping 5.54 meters (18 feet, 2 ¼ inches) for fifth place.
Hannah Ragule was ninth with a mark of 5.31 meters (17 feet, 5 ¼ inches) for ninth place.
Freshman
Ella Impaglia was fourth in the 800 in 2:24.59.
Nazareth's 4 x 100 of
Shiana Susa, Johnson, Ragule, and
Alaina Morley ran to a fourth place finish in 50.75. In other relay action, mpaglia,
Paige Ackley,
Lilianna Hanning and
Emily Weaver took second in the 4 x 800 (10:23.55).
Sydney Vandherhoof had a PR in the 100 hurdles, clocking a 16.29 to take 15
th place.
Abbey Szumloz was 20
th (17.03), while
Samantha Luba (17.34) was 24
th. Szumloz was also sixth in the 400 (1:01.19), while
Isabella Heath (1:02.48) and Susa (1:04.73), were 12
th and 16
th, respectively.
Szumloz capped the day with a 10
th place finish in the 400 hurdles (1:08.61), followed by
Lauren Bendall (1:09.58).
Freshman
Sydney LaSalle had a huge PR in the triple jump, finishing in ninth place at 10.61 meters (34 feet, 9 ¾ inches).
Nazareth returns to action on Friday and Saturday next week for the Empire 8 Championships at Utica.
