GENESEO, NY – Senior Nathan Bowers was fifth overall in the 10K while junior Lilianna Hanning was fifth in the 10K and graduate student Abbey Szumloz was fifth in the 800 to lead the Nazareth Men's and Women's Track and Field teams on the first day of competition at the weather-delayed Geneseo Season Opening Invitational Sunday.
The invite was originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday but was moved twice due to weather concerns and ended up starting Sunday afternoon.
Bowers had the top finish of the day for Nazareth with his third-place finish with a time of 32:27.31 in the 10K race while sophomore Cade Eells placed10th overall in the 5K with a personal best time of 15:20.52. The time ranks third on the all-time Nazareth top-five list.
For the women, Hanning clocked a personal best time of 39:20.29 in the 10K to place fifth while teammate senior Megan Morin was 11th in 40:39.11.
Szumloz led three Nazareth runners into the top-20 in the 800 with her time of 2:23.02. Junior Isabella Heath was 11th (2:27.20) and senior Emily Weaver was 17th with a personal best time of 2:33.02 in the race.
Additional top finishers for the men included junior Matt Reimann (32:33.17) who was sixth and freshman Connor Jackson (34:11.64) for 20th place in the 10K. The trio of graduate student Patrick Healy (4:07.41), freshman Cameron Almy (4:20.80) and freshman Aiden Meyer (4:31.23) took 25th, 55th and 71st in the 1500. Four runners finished among the top-50 in the 800 led by junior Kenny Williams (2:04.51), Gavin McAllister (2:04.85), junior Ethan Glashauser (2:07.13) and freshman Antonio Benitez (2:10.16).
In the men's field events, freshman Aaron Lund (36.17 meters (118' 8")) took 18th in the javelin and fellow freshman John Pomykaj (23.11 meters (75' 10")) was 19th in the discus throw.
Top finishers for the women included the trio of finishers in the 1500 with freshman Ella Impaglia (5:07.62), junior Paige Ackley (5:13.31) and junior Leigha Gould (5:38.69).
In the field events, junior Lea Richard was 18th in the discus with a throw of 27.91 meters (91' 7") while freshman Jaclyn Jorolemon (23.87 meters (78' 3")) was 34th and sophomore Grace Moyer (21.63 meters (70' 11")) was 38th for the Golden Flyers.
Competition will conclude Monday at Geneseo.
