Women's Track and Field Are Empire 8 Indoor Champs!

ROCHESTER, NY – The Nazareth women's track and field squad won its first-ever Empire 8 Indoor Championship on Saturday, earning 192 points over the two-day event. Graduate student Brenna Johnson earned 2023 Empire 8 Championship Field Athlete of the Meet honors after winning the high jump with a height of 1.57 meters (5 feet, 1 3./4 inches), and also earning first in the long jump with a leap of 5.66 meters (18 feet, 7 inches). It was the second time Johnson won the award indoors, also winning in 2021-22.
 
Johnson also won the 60-meter dash in an Empire 8 meet record time of 7.814 seconds, was second in the 200-meters (25.99 seconds), third in the 400-meters (59.47 seconds) and was part of the 4 x 400-meter relay team that placed second overall.

Junior Lea Richard continued her dominance at the weight throw, demolishing the field with a heave of 16.87 meters (55 feet, 4 ¼ inches) for her third-straight indoor title.

 In the 60-meter hurdles senior Sydney Vanderhoof was Nazareth's top finisher in fourth (10.0), followed by Abbey Szumloz (10.01) and Hannah Ragule (10.07).
 
Freshman Ella Impaglia had a personal best in the 800 (2:27.62) for second, while Szumloz was third in 2:28.14.
 
In distance, junior Lilianna Hanning (10:41.38) set a personal best in order to deliver a second place finish, while Emily Weaver was sixth (11:04.49).
 
The quartet of Szumloz, Shiana Susa, Isabella Heath and Johnson were second in the 4 x 400-meter relay in a time of 4:10.00, a regional qualifying time.
 
In field action, Heath garnered a second place finish with a regional mark of 10.84 meters (35 feet, 6 ¾ inches). Ragule picked up fifth place with 10.81 meters (35 feet, 5 ¾ inches), while McKenzie Leahy was sixth in 10.71 meters (35 feet, 4 ¾ inches).
