Brenna Johnson won two individual events and was named Track Athlete of the Meet and senior
Abbey Szumloz won both hurdle events to help Nazareth to a second-place finish at the Empire 8 Conference women's track and field championships at St. John Fisher's Polisseni Complex.
St. John Fisher was able to hold off the Golden Flyers to claim the team title with 197 points. Nazareth had 177 points. Utica finished third with 92 points and was followed by Alfred (85), Houghton (72) and Russell Sage (26).
In addition to winning two events each, Johnson and Szumloz both ran on Nazareth's winning 4 x 400-meter relay.
Claire Bargabos and
Elizabeth Decker also ran in the relay that finished with a winning time of 4:09.64. They also were part of the 4 x 100-meter relay that placed second in :50.90.
Alexa Rizzo and
Hannah Ragule also competed.
Johnson had a personal-best time of :12.63 to win the 100-meter dash and returned to win the 200-mter dash in :26.13. She also scored points for Nazareth in the high jump with a third-place leap of 1.45 meters (4 feet, 9 inches).
Szumloz was first in the 100-meter hurdles (:15.93) and the 400-meter hurdles (1:08.50) and was fifth in the 200-meter dash (:27.56).
Other top performers included Decker, who finished second in the 800-meter run with a personal-best time of 2:23.56;
Hayley Cronin, who finished third in the 5,000-meter run with a personal-best time of 19:02.33;
Emily Weaver, who finished fourth in the 1,500-meter run (5:05.22); Ragule, who was second in the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 10.98 meters (36 feet, 0 1/4 inches) and fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (:16.84);
Gabrielle Pighetti, who was fourth in the shot put (11.06 meters / 36 feet, 3 1/2 inches) and seventh in the discus (31.54 meters / 103 feet, 6 inches);
Lea Richard, who was fifth in the shot put (10.72 meters / 35 feet, 2 inches); Bargabos, who was fourth in the 800-meters run (2:25.59);
Lauren Bendall, who was fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:11.78);
Sarah Merriwether, who was sixth in the high jump (1.45 meters / 4 feet, 9 inches); and Alex Anagnostopulos, who was fifth in the 800-meter run (2:30.61).
