HILTON, NY (nazathletics.com) - Nazareth Women's Track & Field senior
Samantha Luba has been named Empire 8 Field Athlete of the Week after a record-breaking performance in the heptathlon at Williams College's Farewell Inter Regional Friday and Saturday.
Luba shattered the program record in the heptathlon, totaling 4,529 points to finish among the top performers in the event. Her score currently ranks 26th nationally in Division III.
The senior posted personal bests in three events during the two-day competition, including the javelin throw with a mark of 23.74 meters (77 feet, 11 inches), the 200-meter dash in 26.16 seconds and the high jump at 1.53 meters (5 feet, ¼ inch).
Her strongest finishes came in the long jump and 100-meter hurdles, where she placed second in both events. Luba recorded a leap of 5.30 meters (17 feet, 4¾ inches) in the long jump and crossed the finish line in 14.76 seconds in the 100 hurdles.
