Three Records Fall at Season-Opening Meet

ROCHESTER, NY – Senior Brenna Johnson broke her own school record in the 300-meter run and graduate student Elizabeth Decker set the school mark in the 1000-meter race and Anna Ahlquist set the standard in the pole vault as the Nazareth College Women's Track and Field team opened the 2021-22 Indoor season at the Nazareth Alumni Meet at the Golisano Training Center.

Johnson finished sixth in the 300 but set the school record with her 42.88 time. She also qualified for the All-Atlantic Regional Championships in the 400 with a fourth place finish in 1:00.02.

Alhquist, who transferred from Roberts Wesleyan College as a graduate student, set the school record in the pole vault when she cleared the height of 3.2 meters (10' 6") to place fourth in the event.

Decker was first in the 1000 for Nazareth and clocked a new school record time of 3:06.54. Sophomore Leigha Gould was 6th in the race (3:32.79) and the duo teamed with sophomore Isabella Heath and sophomore Lauren Bendall to finish third in the 4x400 relay to finish the meet with a time of 4:21.43.

The team of freshman Ruth DeSanctis, sophomore Paige Ackley, junior Alexis Anagnostopulos and junior Giselle Rainville took 6th in the relay with their time of 4:38.08.

Graduate Student Abbey Szumloz, freshman Riley Norris, junior McKenzie Leahey and Bendall raced to a second place finish in the 4x200 relay. Norris was one of the three finishers for Nazareth in the 60-meter dash as junior Sarah Merriwether (8.36) placing fifth, Norris (8.39) taking sixth and sophomore Sophie Hartz (8.41) taking seventh.

Freshman MacKenzie Gilligan was the top Golden Flyer finisher in the 60-meter hurdles with a 10.09 time and a seventh place finish. The freshman was first in the high jump as she cleared 1.56 meters (5' 1 ¼") and sophomore Hannah Ragule placed seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 10.40 meters (34' 1 ½").

Sophomore Lea Richard was second in both the shot put (11.27 meters (36' 11 ¾")) for a career-best effort and was also second in the weight throw with her 14.73 (48' 4") toss.

Nazareth will compete next at the Brockport Invitational January 22.
