Grant Levermore posted 13 kills in a five-set win over Vassar Saturday and 16 more in a three-set sweep of Wentworth as the Nazareth men's volleyball team completed a perfect 4-0 weekend with a pair of victories at the SUNY Polytechnic Institute Tournament. Nazareth held off Vassar by scores of 25-22, 25-15, 21-25, 20-25, 15-10 and then swept Wentworthy by scores of 25-23, 25-18, 25-16.
The Golden Flyers, ranked ninth nationally, improved to 5-0 overall. In addition to Levermore, senior
Luke Lawatsch represented Nazareth on the all-tournament team.
In the Vassar match, senior
Luke Lawatsch added 15 kills and six blocks and junior
Tim Zyburt combined nine kills with five blocks and eight digs. Freshman
Jake Kemp amassed 28 assists and senior
Nick McDonagh had 18 more. Kemp and
Sam Bittker each had seven digs.
Against Wentworth, in addition to Levermore, Zyburt also had 16 kills and Lawatsch had nine. Junior
John McCarty added five digs. McDonagh had 27 assists and Kemp had 16.
Nazareth plays again Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 at the Thiel Invitational with matches against Fontbonne and Mount St. Joseph on Saturday and Lakeland and Penn State Altoona on Sunday.
