Men’s Volleyball Coasts Past Elmira 3-0

ROCHESTER, NY (nazathletics.com) - Nazareth Men's Volleyball (13-14, 2-6) picked up a Senior-Day victory over Elmira (12-13, 0-8), 3-0, Wednesday evening inside Kidera Gymnasium. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Nazareth pulled away late in a back-and-forth opening set, breaking an early 6-6 tie with kills from Ryan Murphy, Quintin Chiles and Joe Seliger to build a 16-12 edge. The Golden Flyers then used a decisive 5-0 service run from AJ Burda to turn a 21-17 lead into a 24-17 cushion before closing out the 25-18 win.
  • The second set featured constant swings and 12 ties with Nazareth erasing a 13-10 deficit after a timeout behind a Murphy kill, a Ringstad finish and a Murphy ace. Both opponents traded points to 20-20 before Nazareth surged ahead for good with a Murphy kill and a Sean Frawley ace then capped the 25-21 win on a Burda kill.
  • Nazareth fought through another tight start in the third, falling behind 5-2 before rallying behind Chiles and Burda to tie it at 5-5. The Golden Flyers and Soaring Eagles exchanged points through multiple ties to 17-17 before Nazareth created separation with a Frawley ace and key kills from Burda and Chiles for a 23-19 lead, then held off a late push and sealed the sweep with a Ringstad kill at 25-23.
GAME NOTES
  • AJ Burda led the Golden Flyers with 14 points over Elmira, recording 21 assists, eight kills, four aces, four blocks and three digs. The performance is his ninth this season with at least 20 assists and five kills. 
  • Quintin Chiles posted a team-high nine kills at an impressive .800 clip, committing just one error on 10 swings. 
  • Ryan Murphy notched five blocks against the Soaring Eagles, his fourth match this season with at least five stuffs.
