FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Nazareth's men's and women's swimming and diving teams were in action on Saturday in their first competition of the second semester. The Golden Flyers' women's team had dual meets against Fredonia and Ithaca while the Nazareth men took on Fredonia. Junior
Emily Sauter had two first-place finishes as she won the 50-yard freestyle (:25.13) and 100-yard freestyle (:55.86). In the men's meet, Nazareth had seven first-place finishes against the Blue Devils.
In the women's meets, Fredonia defeated Nazareth 193.5-104.5, and Ithaca defeated the Golden Flyers 211-87. In the men's meet, Nazareth fell to Fredonia 163-118. The Bombers' men's team competed at the Henry Kumpf Invitational rather than at Fredonia.
Freshman
Dan Burke had three first-place finishes, while senior
Jacob Kline and junior
Tim Rappold each won two events. Burke won the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke events with times of :55.05 and 1:59.48, respectively. Burke was also the top finisher in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:03.67. Kline's victories came in the 50-yard freestye (:22.63) and 100 butterfly (:54.70). Rappold, meanwhile, won the 100 breaststroke (1:03.84) and 200 breaststroke (2:19.13). Rappold added a second-place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:05.46.
Sophomore
Martin Piva was second in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:07.38. Senior
Mike Bidwell added a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:16.55). Bidwell was also third in the 200 freestyle (1:53.15). Freshman
Sean Doyle finished just behind Bidwell in the 200 with a fifth-place finish in 1:54.2. Doyle was also fifth in the 100 freestyle (:52.26). Freshman
Jeff Green placed second in both diving events as he amassed 182.85 points in the three-meter dive and 209.45 points in the one-meter event.
Junior
Bryan Geary had a productive day as he placed third in both the 100 (:57.61) and 200 (2:09.68) butterfly events, and he was fourth in the 100 freestyle (:52.11). In the 100 breaststroke, freshman
Michael Stanley and senior
Patrick Monachino placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Stanley finished in 1:09.18 while Monachino's time was 1:09.75.
There were many top performances in addition to the first-place swims by Sauter. Junior
Karisa Kobel placed third in the 50 freejust behind Sauter with a time of :26.37. Sophomore
Emma Dorschel claimed second in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:14.31), followed by freshman
Kimberly Pedrotti in third (11:15.87). Dorschel also had a fourth-place finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:29.34, and she collected a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle as she finished in 2:05.18. Pedrotti added a fifth-place finish in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:38.8.
Junior
Maura Reissig was third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.16 and fifth in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:19.8. Senior
McKenna Murphy collected a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly (2:21.35), a fifth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:31.65), and she placed sixth in the 200 freestyle (2:05.41). Sophomore
Brittany Friedrich placed third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:38.04), and she added sixth-place finishes in the 1000 freestyle (11:32.19) and 100 breaststroke (1:14.02). Freshman
Nicole Charette also chipped in a fifth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.68).
The Golden Flyers compete again on the 26th at Utica.
