Record falls in 400 medley relay

WEBSTER, N.Y. -- A school record in the 400-yard medley relay was the highlight of the day Thursday for the Nazareth women's swimming and diving team as action continued at the Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Championships at Webster Aquatic Center.

Nazareth's foursome of freshman Maura Reissig, sophomore Carissa Risucci and juniors Jaclyn Conklin and Rachael Phipps recorded an NCAA B-cut qualifying time of 3:56.09 and finished third behind Stevens and Ithaca.

With two days to go, Nazareth is in fifth place in the team standings with 396.50 points. Ithaca is first with 759 points, followed by Stevens (735.50), Union (623.50), Hartwick (500) and Nazareth.

Phipps also finished fifth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of :58.31. Conklin finished ninth in :59.41.

Conklin also made the finals in the 200-yard free relay with a group that includes freshmen Emily Sauter and Karisa Kobel and junior Holly Gilligan. They finished fourth with a time of 1:39.84.

Sophomore Rachel House finished 10th in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:45.84 and sophomore McKenna Murphy was 11th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.61.

Two of Nazareth's B relays also reached the consolation finals. The 200 free relay team of freshmen Amanda Rogers, Ashley McDonald, Karisa Kobel and junior Rachel Hayes was 14th with a time of 1:44.16. Nazareth also was 20th in the 400 medley relay with a team of senior Kristen Pedrotti, junior Ashley Palmer, Murphy and Sauter with a time of 4:11.35.

In the men's meet, sophomore Jacob Kline finished 14th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of :52.96. Kline also swam in the consolation finals in two relays. Nazareth finished ninth in the 200 free relay in 1:29.26 and 10th in the 400 medley relay in 3:39.85.  Kline was joined by juniors Dan Walton and Jeremy Hudak and sophomore Mike Bidwell in both events.

Nazareth is in 10th place with 149 points. Ithaca has a slim lead over Stevens in the team standings with 726 points to 719 for Stevens. Hartwick (550) is third, followed by Union (544).
