ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth maintained its hold on second place in the team standings Sunday as the Golden Flyers completed their first-semester schedules in men's and women's swimming and diving at RIT's Don Richards Invitational.
The Golden Flyers finished strong with 859 points on the women's side. Ithaca won the meet with 984 points. Hartwick was third (597), followed by LeMoyne (568), Alfred (358) and RIT (305).
Highlighting Sunday's session was the Golden Flyers' 400 medley relay team that placed first in 3:59.72. Freshman
Maura Reissig competed in that event along with sophomore
Carissa Risucci and juniors
Jaclyn Conklin and
Rachael Phipps.
Nazareth also dominated the 500-yard freestyle by taking places 2 through 5. Conklin was second in 5:20.55 and was followed by sophomore
McKenna Murphy (5:21.11), junior
Rachel Hayes (5:24.17) and freshman
Amanda Rogers (5:26.57).
Phipps posted her third second-place finish of the invitational in Sunday's 50 freestyle as she swam a time of :24.35. Freshman
Emily Sauter was fourth in the same event.
Risucci was fourth (2:15.60) and Reissig fifth (2:15.90) in the 200 IM and the foursome of Phipps, Conklin, Murphy and Sauter was second in the 400 free relay (3:38.90).
In the men's meet, Nazareth finished sixth with 359 points. Ithaca won the meet with 933, followed by Hartwick (892), Alfred (617), RIT (478) and LeMoyne (446).
Sophomore
Jacob Kline had Nazareth top finish with a second-place effort in the 200 IM with a time of 2:02.12. He also competed on Nazareth's 400 medley relay that finished fifth in 3:44.54. Sophomore
Mike Bidwell and juniors
Dan Walton and Jeremy Hudak# also competed.
Walton and Hudak also competed on Nazareth 400 free relay that placed sixth in 3:25.98. Freshmen
Bryan Geary and Justin Sawran# also swam. Sawran finished 10th (5:08.24) and sophomore
Josh Haak 12th (5:14.38) in the 500 freestyle.
