Nazareth downs Alfred in opener

ALFRED, N.Y. -- Junior Jaclyn Conklin and freshman Maura Reissig each won two individual events Saturday to lift visiting Nazareth to a 138-90 victory over Alfred in women's swimming and diving. The meet was the season opener for both teams. Alfred defeated Nazareth in the men's meet, 128-59.

Conklin won for Nazareth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.30) and the 100 butterfly (1:03.69) while Reissig swam first in the 200 IM (2:23.41) and the 100 backstroke (1:04.29). Conklin and Reissig also were part of Nazareth's winning 200 medley relay that was clocked in 1:54.56. Carissa Risucci and Rachael Phipps also swam in that event.

Nazareth also had first-place finishes from freshman Amanda Rogers in the 1,000 freestyle (11:48.29); freshman Emily Sauter in the 50 freestyle (:25.55); junior Rachael Phipps in the 100 freestyle (:55.48); sophomore Rachel House in the 500 freestyle (5:46.06) and sophomore Carissa Risucci in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.26).

Nazareth also won the 400 free relay with Rachel Hayes, McKenna Murphy, Holly Gilligan and Sauter (3:55.65).

In the men's meet, senior Jeremy Wood was first in 1-meter diving (120.85) and freshman Justin Sawran finished second in the 200 IM (2:12.85). Sophomores Mike Bidwell and Josh Haak each were second in the 100 breaststroke and the 500 freestyle respectively.
