Men’s Golf End Round One in 4th Place, Calcagni Leads the Field

Oswego, N.Y. (nazathletics.com) – Nazareth's men's golf team took to the Oswego Country Club on Saturday to take part in the Oswego Spring Invitational. Nazareth finished the first of two days in 4th place, recording a team score of +32. They are trailed closely by Utica, who sit only two strokes back (+34), and leading the event is both the hosting SUNY Oswego Lakers and the SUNY Delhi A Team at +20.
 
How It Happened
  • Senior Charlie Calcagni (IND) led his squad through 18 holes with a career round, carding a 71 (E). His score was enough to lead the entire field at the half-way point. Calcagni recorded birdies on the first two holes, and then shot 10 straight pars between holes 6 and 15.
  • Junior Lincoln Crosby was Nazareth's second lowest scorer, coming in a tie for 8th place overall though one round with a score of 76 (+5). Crosby shot an even front nine (35, E) highlighted by bird on 6, and he recorded 4 more pars on the back side including on hole 18.
  • Senior Vincent Falgiatano finished his round in just one more stroke than Crosby, shooting a 77 (+6) to end tied for 10th individually. Falgiatano shot a consistent 18, recording 13 pars including a stretch of 6 straight from hole 5 to 10.
  • Freshman Joshua Anstett was 4th among Golden Flyers (3rd among team-play golfers) in scoring, coming in tied for 24th overall with a score of 81 (+10). He closed out his back nine with 5 consecutive pars, locking in valuable points for his team.
  • Freshman Jack Fesetch carded an 82 (+11), just one behind teammate Anstett. He ended the day tied for 26th and saw 9 pars fall on the day.
  • Freshman Jaxstin Bingham ended opening day in a tie for 30th place overall, shooting an 83 (+12). He shot 7 pars, and his round was highlighted by a birdie on a 446-yard hole 11.
  • Sophomore Justin Krause (IND) and freshman Todd Wilson (IND) rounded out the lineup for Nazareth. They finished tied for 26th and 32nd overall respectively, carding scores of 82 (+11) and 84 (+13).
 
What's Next
The Golden Flyers will be back on the tee box at Oswego Country Club for the second and final round of the SUNY Oswego Spring Invitational on Sunday, April 26th. They will look to climb the ranks heading into the closing round of the second-to-last event of the season.
