Men’s Golf Sitting in 3rd Going into Final Day of E8 Championship

Lebanon, PA. (nazathletics.com) – Nazareth's men's golf team fielded 6 players at Lebanon Country Club on day one of the Spring half of the Empire 8 Championship. Nazareth closed out the Fall portion of the tournament that took place in October in 3rd place, and their scores from this weekend's event in Lebanon will be counted on top of where they finished in Rome, New York 6 months ago. Led by freshman Jack Fesetch, The Golden Flyers placed 4th on the day and stayed put in 3rd overall through 3 rounds. They accumulated a team score of +39 on Sunday, raising their three-round total to +92. Nazareth will enter the 4th and final round looking to hold off SUNY Oswego, who sit just 5 strokes back and achieved the best score on Sunday. St. John Fisher and Russell Sage remain in the top two spots, and Nazareth will need to put on a dominant performance on Monday to threaten their 14 and 18 stroke respective advantages going into closing day.

How It Happened
  • Freshman Jack Fesetch took 8th place overall on the day with a score of 80 (+8). He dropped in a birdie on hole 14 and added 8 pars, including 5 straight on holes 8-12. Fesetch finds himself in a tie for 14th position overall through 3 rounds of individual golf, just 2 strokes out of the top 10.
  • Freshman Jaxstin Bingham landed 14th on the individual leaderboard on Sunday. He carded an 82 (+10) highlighted by a birdie on the 523-yard 15th hole, and he tacked on 8 pars on the round. His performance positions him just 1 stroke behind Fesetch overall with a total score of +27, good for 16th place.
  • Senior Vincent Falgiatano matched Bingham's score of 82 (+10). He sunk a birdie on the 5th hole and sprinkled in 8 pars. Falgiatano's round was powered by consistency, shooting identical 41s on both the front and back nines. He is now sharing the 12th spot overall through 54 holes with a total combined score of +25.
  • Senior Charlie Calcagni was the 18th best-scoring golfer on the day. He managed 9 pars, including 5 consecutively on holes 14-18 to earn himself a score of 83 (+11), just one behind his two teammates in Bingham and Falgiatano. Calcagni now sits tied for 14th overall with teammate Fesetch, logging a combined score of +26.
  • Junior Lincoln Crosby also found himself in the tie for 18th on the round, recording an 83 (+11). His day was powered by a pair of birdies coming on holes 12 and 14, and his 7 pars. He sits in 9th place overall now, still leading his team, and is 12 strokes back from the lead. Crosby has garnered a total 3-round score of +23.
  • Freshman Joshua Anstett rounded out the Golden Flyers squad, ending the day in 31st with an 87 (+15). Anstett birdied the first hole and added 6 pars. His score was largely aided by a strong front nine that saw him shoot a 39 (+3), which he'll look to replicate and duplicate on closing day. He has sole possession of 24th place with a score of +34 going into round 4.

What's Next
The Golden Flyers will return to Lebanon Country Club on Monday, April 20th with hopes of moving up the ranks in the Empire 8 Conference Championship and placing a few golfers in and around the top 10 individually.
