Lebanon, PA. (nazathletics.com) – Nazareth's men's golf team fielded 6 players at Lebanon Country Club on day one of the Spring half of the Empire 8 Championship. Nazareth closed out the Fall portion of the tournament that took place in October in 3
rd place, and their scores from this weekend's event in Lebanon will be counted on top of where they finished in Rome, New York 6 months ago. Led by freshman
Jack Fesetch, The Golden Flyers placed 4
th on the day and stayed put in 3
rd overall through 3 rounds. They accumulated a team score of +39 on Sunday, raising their three-round total to +92. Nazareth will enter the 4
th and final round looking to hold off SUNY Oswego, who sit just 5 strokes back and achieved the best score on Sunday. St. John Fisher and Russell Sage remain in the top two spots, and Nazareth will need to put on a dominant performance on Monday to threaten their 14 and 18 stroke respective advantages going into closing day.
How It Happened
- Freshman Jack Fesetch took 8th place overall on the day with a score of 80 (+8). He dropped in a birdie on hole 14 and added 8 pars, including 5 straight on holes 8-12. Fesetch finds himself in a tie for 14th position overall through 3 rounds of individual golf, just 2 strokes out of the top 10.
- Freshman Jaxstin Bingham landed 14th on the individual leaderboard on Sunday. He carded an 82 (+10) highlighted by a birdie on the 523-yard 15th hole, and he tacked on 8 pars on the round. His performance positions him just 1 stroke behind Fesetch overall with a total score of +27, good for 16th place.
- Senior Vincent Falgiatano matched Bingham's score of 82 (+10). He sunk a birdie on the 5th hole and sprinkled in 8 pars. Falgiatano's round was powered by consistency, shooting identical 41s on both the front and back nines. He is now sharing the 12th spot overall through 54 holes with a total combined score of +25.
- Senior Charlie Calcagni was the 18th best-scoring golfer on the day. He managed 9 pars, including 5 consecutively on holes 14-18 to earn himself a score of 83 (+11), just one behind his two teammates in Bingham and Falgiatano. Calcagni now sits tied for 14th overall with teammate Fesetch, logging a combined score of +26.
- Junior Lincoln Crosby also found himself in the tie for 18th on the round, recording an 83 (+11). His day was powered by a pair of birdies coming on holes 12 and 14, and his 7 pars. He sits in 9th place overall now, still leading his team, and is 12 strokes back from the lead. Crosby has garnered a total 3-round score of +23.
- Freshman Joshua Anstett rounded out the Golden Flyers squad, ending the day in 31st with an 87 (+15). Anstett birdied the first hole and added 6 pars. His score was largely aided by a strong front nine that saw him shoot a 39 (+3), which he'll look to replicate and duplicate on closing day. He has sole possession of 24th place with a score of +34 going into round 4.
What's Next
The Golden Flyers will return to Lebanon Country Club on Monday, April 20th with hopes of moving up the ranks in the Empire 8 Conference Championship and placing a few golfers in and around the top 10 individually.
