Cade Eells (mile) and
Will D'Agata (pole vault) each broke the school record in their respective events as the Nazareth men's track and field squad completed day 1 of the Empire 8 Championships on Friday at Utica University. Nazareth is currently in fifth place out of nine teams heading into the final day on Saturday.
Geneseo leads the way with 97.5 points, followed by Brockport (62.5), St. John Fisher (39.5), Utica (32), Nazareth (26.5), Houghton (9), Alfred (5), Hartwick (1), and Sage (0).
Eells (4:13.42) broke the school record in the mile to take third place in a regional qualifying time. It was also five seconds faster than his previous PR.
Ethan Kenyon was 10
th (4:23.10).
D'Agata tied
Jack Pomykaj's pole vault record of 4.45 meters (14' 7 ¼") to earn third place, while Pomykaj was sixth at 4.30 meters (14' 1 ¼"). Freshman
Nolan Armitage also earned a point with an 8
th place finish at 4.15 meters (13' 7 ¼").
Pomykaj is in fourth place in the heptathlon after four events. His highest finish came as he crossed third in the 60-meters (7.31).
Freshman
Graeden Heichberger took home third place in the shot put with a regional qualifying mark of 14.84 meters (48' 8 ¼").
Junior
Adam Reifsteck got on the podium with an 8
th place finish in the long jump at 6.52 meters (21' 4 ¾").
Nazareth's distance medley of
