Rome, N.Y. – The Nazareth women's golf team sits in 2nd after day one of the Empire 8 Fall Championship at Teugega Country Club. They turned in a combined team score of 383 (+99) and just held off SUNY Geneseo who sit six strokes behind them with a 389 (+105). Leading is St. John Fisher who built a substantial lead, carding a 348 (+64).
How It Happened
- Sophomore Bethany Wineburg was Nazareth's lowest scoring golfer, shooting an 89 (+18) that was good for 4th place on the overall individual leaderboard. Wineburg's round saw her sinking birdies on holes 9 and 17.
- Second among Golden Flyers was freshman Lainie Liberatore, who carded a 91 (+20). She claimed 5th place after the first 18 holes of the tournament, which was highlighted by three pars.
- 11th overall and third on her team was senior Grace Colangelo, who turned in a 99 (+28) through one round. Like Liberatore, she managed three pars on the day.
- Rounding out Nazareth's scoring golfers was senior Kara Kopyt. She shot a 104 (+33) to take 18th place overall and fourth on her team going into day two.
- Freshmen Breanna Bovo (IND; 110, +39) and Abigail Denz (115, +44) were fifth and sixth among Golden Flyers, and 21st and 26th overall respectively.
What's Next
Nazareth will return to Teugega Country Club on Monday, October 13th for day two of the Fall Conference Championship. They will look to separate from 3rd place SUNY Geneseo and push St. John Fisher for first place.
