Connor McCauslin (110-meter hurdles) and
Cade Eells (3,000-meter steeplechase) each won individual events as the Nazareth men's track and field squad competed at the Geneseo Early Season Invitational on Saturday.
McCauslin had the top qualifying time in the 110-meter hurdles at 15.75 and improved upon that to 15.50, a regional qualifying time, to take the top spot in the final.
Eells was the top runner in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, running a regional qualifying time of 9:25.35, coming in over a second ahead of Geneseo's Alex Hillyard. The junior was also 20
th in the 800 in a time of 2:01.39. Freshman Cole Hasting was 26
th (2:02.27).
Jason Bletsko smashed his previous outdoor record in the pole vault of 4.10 meters (13' 5 ¼') by jumping 4.30 meters (14' 1 ¼") for second place. Teammate
Jack Pomykaj hit the same mark for fourth place.
In the 4 x 400 relay,
Joey Nettles,
Mike Welch,
Cole Hastings and
Michael Puglisi were able to rattle off a second place finish in 3:27.94.
Sophomore
Gavin McAllister put together his fastest-ever time in the 400, a 51.39 for eighth place. He was followed by Welch (51.43) and
Benjamin Lewis (51.70).
Aaron Lund had a strong showing in the 400-meter hurdles, taking sixth in 58.79.
In the triple jump,
Gabe Wilson and
Ryan DeShane turned in top 10 finishes. Wilson's mark of 12.29 meters (40' 4") earned him seventh and Deshane's jump of 12.16 meters (39' 10 ¾") put him in ninth place.
David Dobrowolski turned in a 35.02 meter heave in the discus (114' 11") to take 14
th.
Nazareth will compete at the Rochester Alumni Invitational at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
