HOUGHTON, NY – After securing its first-ever Empire 8 Indoor Track and Field Championship in 2023, the 2024 Nazareth women's squad repeated on Saturday at Houghton University. The Golden Flyers were solid throughout the weekend, including
Lea Richard successfully defending her weight throw crown, winning it for the fourth consecutive year on Saturday. She had a personal best throw of 17.56 meters (57 feet, 7 ½ inches) on her sixth and final throw. Her previous best was 17.52 meters (57 feet, 5 ¾ inches) at end of 2023 at the Alumni Opener. In addition, junior thrower
Grace Moyer earned the Empire 8 Torchbearer Award given to the junior or senior participating in the championship with the highest GPA. The junior holds a 4.0 in English with Concentration in Early Childhood Education.

Nazareth finished with 193.33 points, ahead of Utica (126), St. John Fisher (81), Houghton (66), Alfred (47.66), Sage (8), and Hartwick (5).
The Golden Flyers had a great start to the day in the triple jump, taking 18 points.
Isabella Heath had a personal best and the seventh best mark in school history with a jump of 11.09 meters (36 feet, 4 ¾ inches) to take second place. She was followed in third by senior
Hannah Ragule at 10.94 meters (35 feet, 10 ¾ inches) and
Samantha Luba in fourth place at 10.75 meters (35 feet, 3 ¼ inches). Luba smashed her previous best of 10.52 meters (34 feet, 6 ¼ inches).
Later on, Nazareth was able to tack on 18 more points in the triple jump with Heath once again setting a personal best at 11.09 meters (36 feet, 4 ¾ inches) to earn second place. Ragule was third place at 10.94 meters (35 feet, 10 ¾ inches), followed by Luba in fourth at a personal best 10.75 meters (35 feet, 3 ¼ inches).
Freshman
Mallory Rice (9.84) and Luba (9.93) each had personal bests in the 60-meter hurdles to take third and fourth place, respectively. Rice had a previous best of 9.91 and Luba's was 10.13.
Sophomore
Alaina Morley continued her strong weekend, obliterating her previous personal best (27.56) in the 200. Her time of 26.45 was good for third place while classmate
Alexis Lasher picked up a point in sixth place (26.87), also a personal best. Freshman Jasmin Kendrick just missed out on the podium in seventh place (27.20).
Morley also set a personal best in the high jump with a mark of 1.51 meters (4 feet, 11 ½ inches) for third place.
Sarah Merriwether was second with the same exact height, clearing it on the first attempt.
Hailey Webber was fourth in the weight throw at 14.68 meters (48 feet, 2 inches).
Ella Impaglia (2:23.01) shaved over two seconds from her previous best (2:25.23) to take third place in the 800.
To close out the championship,

Alexis Lasher,
Shiana Susa, and Heath took second in the 4 x 400-meter relay (4:14.60).
