WEBSTER, NY – The Nazareth women's swimming and diving team took home its sixth-straight Empire 8 Championship on Saturday night, finishing with 1,066 points ahead of Hartwick (793) and Alfred (675). Senior Elizabeth Tripp capped off an incredible career with repeating as the 3-meter diving champ. She was once again recognized as the diver of the meet for both the Allegheny/Empire and Empire 8. In addition, Tripp earned the Empire 8 Torchbearer Award, given to the junior or senior participating in the championship with the highest GPA. The Hamburg, NY native holds a 3.97 GPA in Art Education.
Nazareth was second overall (1,050) in the Allegheny Empire meet, behind Penn-State Behrend 1,090.50. The rest of the field included Alfred State (825), Hartwick (796), Alfred (509), Penn State Altoona (469), Pitt-Bradford (230.50) and Wells (157).
Tripp collected 451.80 points over 11 dives for the 3-meter board to earn the title for the second consecutive year. Fellow senior Alexa Rizzo took second place with 386.70 points.
The Golden Flyers closed out the meet on a positive note with a second place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay with Julie Filipski, Ellen Burroughs, Isabella Jaskowski, and Caroline Coleman coming in 2:39.42.
Burroughs delivered a personal best time in the 100-yard free (54.56) which put her in the runner-up position. Amy Barry was 13th in a time of 59.09.
Jaskowski had a strong outing in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in 2:12.46 to earn fourth place. Alyssa Woodford was also in the "A" final and placed fifth in 2:15.23 after winning the event a year ago.
Nazareth picked up some points in the 1,650 freestyle, headlined by Coleman who clocked a 18:30.61 to earn third place. She was followed by Sydney Federico (19:05.32) in sixth place, Maura Miller (19:24.18) in eighth place, and Allison Putnam (19:41.13) in 10th place
The Golden Flyers had a pack in the 200-yard breaststroke, earning 51 points in the "A" final. Filipski was the top Nazareth performer in a personal best time of 2:25.43 for third place. Her previous best was 2:26.12 at the Rochester invite in 2021. In addition, junior Lauren Sanford (2:39.52) and senior Mackenzie Storrs (2:40.03) were 7th and 8th, respectively.
Senior Grace Cioffi picked up a fifth place finish in the 200-yard fly (2:19.64). She was joined on the podium by sophomore Peyton Buell (2:27.18) who was eighth place.
