WEBSTER, NY – Senior Julie Filipski took second in the 200-yard freestyle and senior Isabella Jaskowski was second in the 100-yard backstroke to lead the Nazareth University Women's Swimming and Diving team on day three of the Allegheny Empire Championships Friday night.
Nazareth leads the team scoring with 722 points followed by Penn State Behrend (692.5), Alfred State (551) and Hartwick (548). Alfred (337) is fifth, Penn State Altoona (330) sixth, Pitt-Bradford (162.5) seventh and Wells (105) in eighth place with one day remaining.
Filipski was second by .07 in the 200 with her time of 1:58.02. Nazareth also had junior Caroline Coleman (1:59.09) in fourth, freshman Ellen Burroughs (2:00.38) in sixth and freshman Allison Putnam (2:01.30) in eighth place in the "A" final. Junior Maura Miller (2:06.93) and senior Sydney Federico (2:08.76) finished 14th and 16th respectively in the "B" Final.
Jaskowski led four Nazareth swimmers in the 100 back with her second-place time of 1:00.53. senior Alyssa Woodford (1:03.34) was 8th and junior Amy Barry (1:05.94) was 10th in the "A" Final while junior Emily Gerard (1:08.92) was 19th overall.
Jaskowski, Filipski, senior Grace Cioffi and Coleman teamed for a second-place finish in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:03.93 while the "B" relay with Woodford, junior Laura Sanford, junior Amelia Richards and Burroughs won the "B" Final with a time of 4:16.12.
Sanford was fifth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.37 and senior Ashleigh Parsons was seventh with a 1:12.30 time.
Jaskowski (1:03.22) was fourth in the 100 butterfly while Richards (1:05.51) was 10th. In the 400 IM, Cioffi (4:55.92) was fifth, sophomore Peyton Buell (5:00.45) was sixth and senior Mackenzie Storrs (5:04.98) was ninth for Nazareth.
The competition at the Allegheny Empire Championships comes to a close Saturday evening.
