ROCHESTER, NY – Junior Nathan Bowers capped a great weekend with a win in the 5000-meters after winning the 10,000 Friday night as the Nazareth College Men's Track and Field team took third place in the Empire 8 Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Golden Flyers Stadium.
Utica (194 points) won the team title and St. John Fisher (189) was second. Nazareth scored 170 and finished ahead of Houghton (42), Alfred (30), Sage (20) and Hartwick (5).
Bowers was voted the Male Track Athlete of the Meet as he posted the only individual first place finish for Nazareth Saturday. Like the 10K race Friday night, Bowers ran with teammate Matt Reimann until the last 200 meters as he pulled away for the victory in 15:28.73. Reimann took second in 15:29.16 and Ethan Glashauser was eighth in 16:19.18.
The 4x400 relay with Mike Welch, Benjamin Lewis, Patrick Healy and Matthew Johnson was first with a winning time of 3:25.59. Healy was third in the 800 with a time of 2:01.32 while Lucas Sharron was fourth (2:01.82) and Kenny Williams was sixth (2:02.71) to score points for Nazareth.
Johnson added a second place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 13.01 meters (42' 8 ¼") and was also seventh in the 400 hurdles in 1:01.33.
Lewis also ran with the fourth place 4x100 relay as he teamed with Connor McCauslin, Welch and Joey Nettles for a time of 44.20. Lewis was also eighth in the 100-meters with a time of 11.35. Welch was fourth (23.22) and Lewis was sixth (23.46) in the 200.
McCauslin was seventh in the 100 (11.34) and also second in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.01. Kaleb Luton ran third in the hurdles with a 15.06 time. Luton was fifth (12.79/ 41' 11 ½") in the triple jump.
Cade Eells followed up his win in the steeplechase with a second place finish in the 1500 with a time of 4:13.06 as he led a 2-3-4-5 finish for Nazareth in the race. Sharron was third (4:15.17), Josh Tomaka was fourth (4:17.87 and Ethan Kenyon was fifth (4:18.67) for the Golden Flyers.
In the high jump, Kyle Reid was third (1.80 (5' 10 ¾")) and Arthur DeVasto was sixth (1.75 (5' 8 ¾")).
Nazareth will host a Last Chance meet May 15 that will start at 1 p.m. at Golden Flyers Stadium.
