ITHACA, NY – Senior Brenna Johnson won the long jump and sophomore Isabella Heath reached a career-best distance in the triple jump to lead the Nazareth College Women's Track and Field team at the Bomber Invitational Saturday at Ithaca College.
Johnson posted a winning jump of 5.41 meters (17' 9") on her fifth of six attempts to place first in the field event for Nazareth.
Earlier in the day, Heath posted her best finish in the triple jump with a leap of 10.58 meters (34' 8 ½") which placed her third overall. Teammate sophomore Hannah Ragule was fifth in the event with a distance of 10.50 meters (34' 5 ½").
Sophomore Lea Richard had a pair of solid finishes with a second place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 15.40 meters (50' 6 ¼") and also took eighth in the shot put with a final distance of 10.88 meters (35' 8 ½"). The shot put top score was on her first attempt while the weight throw came on her final attempt.
Graduate student Anna Ahlquist place fifth in the pole vault as she cleared 3.36 meters (11' ¼") while Johnson added a sixth place finish in the 200 (27.63) and the team of sophomore Lauren Bendall, graduate student Elizabeth Decker, freshman Riley Norris and senior Claire Bargabos took sixth in the 4x400 with a time of 4:20.08.
Freshman MacKenzie Gilligan was seventh in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.89 but improved to 9.84 in the finals and took fifth place overall.
Decker added a ninth place finish in the 400 (1:03.32), junior Emily Weaver was 11th in the mile (5:27.99) and junior Sarah Merriwether was 12th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.31.
The Golden Flyers will compete at the RIT Invitational Friday while a few select athletes will travel to Staten Island for the Fast Track Invitational also on Friday.
