ROCHESTER, NY – The 4x400 relay earned a Regional Championships qualifying mark and the Nazareth sprinters earned high marks as the Golden Flyers competed in the final regular season meet of the year at the Conference Tune Up meet Friday at the Golisano Training Center.
The relay that featured graduate students Abbey Szumloz and Elizabeth Decker along with sophomore Lauren Bendall and senior Brenna Johnson clocked a 4:06.85 to earn a spot at the All-Atlantic Regional Championships.
Johnson added a third place finish in the 200 meter race with a 26.51 time. A pair of runners had top times in the 60-meter dash as junior Sydney Vanderhoof finished second in the open 60 meter race with an 8.82 while freshman Riley Norris was sixth in the invitational 60-meter dash with an 8.23 time.
In the 800-meter race five Golden Flyers finished in the top 16 places led by senior Claire Bargabos who was fourth with a 2:27.91. She was followed by junior Emily Weaver (10th – 2:31.57), sophomore Paige Ackley (11th – 2:32.17), junior Alexis Anagnostopulos (13th – 2:34.45) and sophomore Leigha Gould (16th – 2:35.52).
Junior Megan Morin had personal best in the mile with a fourth place time of 5:24.87.
Freshman MacKenzie Gilligan took fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a personal best 9.41 time and also placed eighth in the triple jump with a personal best distance of 10.05 meters (32 feet, 11 3/4 inches). Both were personal bests.
Additional field event top finishers included sophomore Lea Richard, who broke her own school record in the weight throw with a 15.72-meter toss (51 feet, 7 inches) and was ninth in the shot put with a final distance of 11.06 meters (36 feet, 3 1/2 inches).
Junior McKenzie Leahey was ninth in the long jump at 5.03 meters (16 feet, 6 inches) and sophomore Hannah Ragule was 10th at 5.00 meters (16 feet, 5 inches).
Next up for the Golden Flyers is the Empire 8 Championship meet Feb. 25-26 at Utica College.
