Nick Charron netted the only goal of the game on Friday night to lift Nazareth 1-0 over Alvernia University and extend its winning streak to six games. The streak is currently the second-longest unbeaten streak in program history. In 2017-18, Nazareth went seven games with an unbeaten streak (5-0-2).
Nazareth sits atop the UCHC standings at 5-0 in conference play and is 6-2 overall. The Golden Wolves fall to 3-3-1 and 2-3 in conference play.
The Golden Flyers dominated the first period, generating 29 shots to just six for the Golden Wolves. Despite the large shot disparity, Nazareth came up empty in the period, including going 0-2 on the powerplay. For the game, Nazareth held a 47-13 edge in shots.
Nazareth found the net at the 1:41 mark of the second.
Joey Schaefer dumped the puck into the zone and the Alvernia goaltender was beat behind the net by
Michael DiSchiavi. The graduate student through the puck in front for Charron to bury with an open net to make it 1-0. The goal was Charron's fourth of the season, tying him with
Henry McKinney for the team lead.
The visitors were 0-6 on the power play, generating 16 shots.
Raphael Provencher picked up his first shutout of the season, making 13 saves and improving to 5-1 on the season.
Nazareth and Alvernia will square off again on Saturday with the start time set for 3 p.m.
