Men's Hockey Has Win Streak Snapped at 6 with 2-1 Loss at Alvernia

ROCHESTER, NY – The Nazareth men's hockey team had its six-game winning streak snapped on Saturday, falling 2-1 to Alvernia University, the Golden Flyers first loss in conference play this season. The six-straight wins was the second longest unbeaten streak in program history just behind the 2017-18 squad which went seven contests (5-0-2) without a blemish.
 
Nazareth moves to 6-3 on the season and 5-1 in conference play, while the Golden Wolves improve to 4-3-1 and 3-3, respectively.
 
The Golden Wolves outshot Nazareth 23-19 in the game.
 
The game featured a plethora of penalties with seven opportunities for Nazareth and six for the hosts.
 
Nazareth's lone goal came with an extra-man over six minutes into the second period, as sophomore Joey Schaefer back-handed a shot over the shoulder of the Alvernia goaltender to start the scoring. Joshua Dressler and Liam Beaudoin were credited with assists on Schaefer's second goal of the year.
 
Alvernia evened the game with under five minutes to play in the second and then added the game-winning goal at the 18:04 mark.
 
Raphael Provencher suffered the defeat in net, making 21 saves.

Nazareth will be back in action on December 2, traveling to Stevenson for a 7 p.m. contest.
