ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth once again was able to showcase the Golisano Training Center Saturday as 20 track and field teams -- 10 men's and 10 women's -- competed in the Conference Challenge Cup.
With Sunday's heptathlon still to be contested, Nazareth was in eighth place in the men's team standings with 22 points. Geneseo was first with 136 points, followed by Cortland (121) and Rochester (96).
Nazareth effort was bolstered by some strong individual performances that included a third-place finish for
Connor McCauslin in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.50 seconds.
Kaleb Luton also competed and was in first place after the morning preliminaries with a time of 8.40, but he was unable to finish in final race due to a leg injury. McCauslin also sprinted to a seventh-place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.29.
In the 3,000-meter run, Nate Bowers had a personal-best time of 8:48.55 to finish in eighth place. Freshman
Benjamin Lewis made his first appearance in the 400-meter dash and finished in seventh place in :51.51. He was chased by
Mike Welch, who finished 10th in :51.96.
Lewis and Welch also competed in the 4 x 400-meter relay that finished eighth in 3:32.64 and included
Matthew Johnson and
Joey Nettles.
Josh Pomerleau scored for Nazareth in the pole vault as he equaled his own school record by clearing 4.40 meters (14 feet, 5 1/4 inches).
Nazareth also scored in the distance medley relay with the foursome of
Kenny Williams,
Dwight Bolton,
Ethan Kenyon and
Nathan McNally that placed fifth in 11:26.08.
