BROCKPORT, NY – Sophomore Erin Reyner raced to a first place finish with a time 10:43.03 to place first by nearly five seconds to lead the Nazareth College women's track and field team to nine top-10 finishes Saturday afternoon at the Brockport Invitational at the Special Events Recreation Center.
Reyner took over the lead at the midway point of the race and had as much as a 10-second lead in the race.
The Golden Flyers finished seventh in the team standings with 23 points. Brockport won the team scoring with 182 points followed by Geneseo (147 points), Rochester (87), RIT (61), St. John Fisher (44), Oswego (32) and Nazareth. Daemen, Houghton and LeMoyne rounded out the top-10 teams in the 13-team meet.
Nazareth finished the day with nine top-10 finishes including a pair of high finishes by sophomore Ally Criswell. The thrower was seventh (10.75 meters – 35' 3 ¼") in the shot put and was eighth in the weight throw with a heave of 13.30 meters (43' 7 ¾").
The relay with sophomore Claire Bargabos, juniors Elizabeth Decker, Lydia Dewart and Kelly Artini finished third with a time of 4:22.68 in the 4x400 relay.
Artini also placed ninth in the 800 meters (2:30.24) while Bargabos was eighth (1:03.76) and Decker ninth (1:04.04) in the 400 meters. Freshman Emily Weaver was 10th in the 5K (20:00.20) and sophomore Madison Sabourin was 10th (8.25) in the 60 meter dash.
Other strong finishes were recorded by Sabourin (13th) in the 200 meters, graduate student Eileen Shea (15th) in the 800 meters, freshman Megan Morin (11th) in the 3K and freshman Mackenzie Carney (18th) in the mile.
The Golden Flyers will compete next weekend at the Valentine Invitational at Boston University and the RIT Midseason Meet in split squad competition.
