GENESEO, NY – Junior Maria Staehr and sophomore Deirdre Brett were the first two runners to cross the finish line in the 800-meter race to lead the Nazareth College women's track and field team at the Geneseo May Meet Saturday afternoon.
Staehr clocked a personal best 2:22.89 to win the race and Brett was second with a 2:27.84 for the Golden Flyers.
Nazareth also had a pair of top-10 finishes in the field events as freshman Gabrielle Pighetti was fourth in the shot put with a 11.45 toss and frellow freshman Ally Criswell was eighth in the discus with a thrw of 33.10 meters. Pighetti also finished 10th in the discus with a 32.65-meter toss.
Other top performers for the Golden Flyers included freshman Brenna Johnson with a 12th in the 200 (27.22), sophomore Kelly Artini with a 16th (1:03.83) in the 400 and fellow sophomore Abbey Szumloz 9th (1:11.89) in the 400 Hurdles for her career best finish.
In the field events, sophomore Sara Thomas was 11th in the triple jump and 12th in the long jump while graduate student Kathleen Irwin was 12th in the triple and 15th in the long jump for Nazareth.
Freshmen
Bailey Robinson and
Grace Blankenberg were 14th and 17th respectively in the hammer throw to round out the Nazareth finishers.
