Updated statsOSWEGO, N.Y. -- After edging St. Scholastica 4-3 in overtime on Friday in its first game of the Oswego State Hockey Classic, Nazareth fell to the host Lakers 5-2 in the tournament's championship game Saturday evening. Juniors
James Redman and
Tom Seravalli scored for the Golden Flyers, but it was not enough to overcome Oswego's four-goal second period. Junior
Don Olivieri was named to the all-tournament team after scoring twice on Friday.
Following the loss, Nazareth stands at 5-5-3 overall. With the victory, sixth-ranked Oswego improves to 9-1-2 overall. It is the Lakers' fourth consecutive victory while the Golden Flyers suffer their first loss since November 30th when they were edged by Amherst, currently ranked 15th nationally, 1-0.
Redman tied Saturday's contest 1-1 with only 1:24 left to play in the first period. Junior
Matt Conway and sophomore
Justin LaCorte earned the assists. Redman's goal followed a faceoff in the Lakers' zone after Redman had an initial shot saved by Oswego's Matt Zawadzki. It was Redman's second goal of the season.
The Lakers broke the scoreless tie about five minutes before Redman put the Golden Flyers on the board. Chris Waterstreet found the back of the Nazareth net for his third goal of the season, and he was assisted by John Jackson and Brandon Adams.
Mitchell Herlihey reclaimed the Lakers' lead 6:02 into the second. Oswego took control of the contest in the final 4:30 of the second stanza when they scored three goals, including two in the final 47 seconds of the period. Herlihey had an assist on the eventual game-winning goal by Shawn Hulshof and insurance goal from Montagna. He leads the Lakers in scoring with seven goals and nine assists. Adams gave Oswego the four-goal lead going into the third when he scored with 19 seconds left in the period.
Seravalli scored the lone goal of the third period when he stuffed a rebound into the Lakers' net with 2:12 to play in regulation. The goal, Seravalli's second of the season, followed a series of shots by

Don Olivieri,
Julius Tamasy, and
Dominik Gabaj as Nazareth scored its first power play goal of the game. LaCorte and Gabaj were credited with the assists. Roughly three minutes before Seravalli scored, freshman
Oliver Janzen rang a shot off the crossbar. Sophomore
Ben Blasko, who leads the Golden Flyers in points with one goal and 11 assists, left Saturday's game toward the end of the third period when he took a hard hit at Oswego's blue line.
Nazareth finished with a 28-27 edge in shots on goal while Oswego recorded an overwhelming 47-24 advantage in faceoff victories. Zawadzki stymied the Golden Flyers' offense with a game-high 26 saves. Junior
Ed Zdolshek tallied 22 saves for the Golden Flyers.
Nazareth returns to the Bill Gray's Regional Iceplex on Saturday, January 10th to host Buffalo State in a non-conference hockey game at 7 p.m. The Golden Flyers are undefeated this season at the Iceplex with a 3-0-1 record.
