AMHERST, MA -- Visiting Nazareth closed its two-game trip to Massachusetts with a 1-0 loss to Amherst on Sunday afternoon. The host Lord Jeffs scored midway through the first period, and goalie Dave Cunningham stopped 27 shots by the Golden Flyers to preserve the victory. Sophomore Brandon Lane had a season-high 32 saves, and freshman Oliver Janzen tallied a team-high five shots for Nazareth.

Following the loss, the Golden Flyers slip to 4-4-1 overall. With the victory, Amherst improves to 5-1 overall. The one goal that the Lord Jeffs scored on Sunday was their fewest in a game this season.

With 7:18 remaining in the opening period, Topher Flanagan scored his fourth goal of the season. Aaron Deutsch and David White were credited with the assists. The scoring opportunity followed a faceoff victory by Amherst. In the opening minutes of the period, sophomore Dominik Gabaj had a shot ring off the post for Nazareth.

The Lord Jeffs finished with a 33-27 advantage in shots, while each team won 31 faceoffs. Junior Rocky Gruttadauria, sophomore Ben Blasko, and freshman Matt Manzella each recorded three shots for Nazareth. Early in the third period, the Golden Flyers had a one-on-one opportunity with junior Scott Andler in control of the puck but Amherst's defender, Kevin Ryder, made a great defensive play to force Andler's shot off target.

Both teams were whistled for five penalties. The Golden Flyers' defense held Amherst to 0-5 on the power play. Nazareth was 0-4 with the man-advantage.

The Golden Flyers host Geneseo on Tuesday in another non-conference contest. Nazareth returns to ECAC West action on December 5th when the Golden Flyers travel to play Elmira.
