ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth opened the New York Challenge at RIT with a three-set victory over the host Tigers before falling to NYU in five sets. The scores of the match against RIT were 25-22, 25-20, 25-14. Against NYU, the scores were 23-25, 25-21, 25-15, 15-25, 15-12. Junior
Kassandra Buseck had a match-high nine kills against RIT then amassed a career-high 23 kills against NYU.
The Golden Flyers stand at 26-7 overall following Friday's matches. The Tigers fell to 14-23 overall with the loss. NYU improves to 23-5 overall after defeating Nazareth. With the loss, the Golden Flyers' 11-match win streak was snapped.

Chelsea Beecher added six kills against RIT. A total of eight Golden Flyers tallied kills as Nazareth's balanced attack overwhelmed RIT.Freshman
Madi Wickens finished the match with 23 assists to lead all players as she directed Nazareth's attack. The Golden Flyers finished with 32 kills and only six hitting errors. Nazareth converted 13 kills in the first set, 12 kills in the second, and eight in the third. The Golden Flyers converted their second-set kills without any attack errors. Nazareth had hitting percentages of .242, .444, and .273 during the three sets.
Defensively, the Golden Flyers held the Tigers to 19 kills and forced 16 attack errors. RIT had hitting percentages of .185, -.036, and -.040. Freshman
Maureen Thayer finished the match with a team-high 10 digs to thwart the Tigers' attacks. Sophomore
Melissa Kline also had eight digs.
Against NYU, beecher and Allocco finished with 12 kills and 10 kills, respectively, in addition to Buseck's kills. Wickens tallied 42 assists.
Thayer and Beecher stymied many attempts by the Violets for Nazareth's defense. Thayer finished with 32 digs while Beecher had 14 digs.
The Golden Flyers resume action in the New York Challenge on Saturday. Nazareth plays 24th-ranked Clarkson at 1 p.m. then finishes the tournament against St. Lawrence at 3 p.m.
