ROCHESTER, N.Y. (nazathletics.com) - Nazareth Women's Volleyball (2-22, 2-7) fell to Utica (11-16, 3-6), 3-1, Saturday afternoon inside Kidera Gymnasium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Nazareth rallied late to take a tightly contested opening set, 28-26. The Golden Flyers traded points with Utica throughout before clutch kills from Leah Fusilli and Alana Lucey, capped by a block from Lorianna Mattutat and Lucey, sealed the win.
- Nazareth battled back from a mid-set deficit to force extra points, but Utica edged out a 30-28 win. Strong swings from Fusilli and Lucey kept the Golden Flyers within reach, yet Utica capitalized on late errors to even the match at one set apiece.
- Utica found momentum in the third, building a lead midway through and holding off Nazareth for a 25-20 victory. Despite solid play from Hailey Trank and Lucey to close the gap, Nazareth couldn't overcome a late Utica push.
- Utica carried its energy into the fourth, jumping ahead early and maintaining control for a 25-13 set win to close out the match. Nazareth couldn't find rhythm offensively as the Pioneers' strong serving and net defense sealed the result.
MATCH NOTES
- Alana Lucey notched a career-best 15 kills in her second consecutive match along with three blocks, three digs and one service ace.
- Leah Fusilli recorded her second straight double-double with a career-high 22 digs and 14 kills, her fourth double-double this fall. She added one service ace and one block for 15.5 points.
- Jenna Mattison registered a career-high 26 digs at libero, her eighth performance with double-digit digs this season.
- Hailey Trank dished out a team-best 24 assists, her second consecutive contest with 20 or more digs and sixth match in double-digits this fall.
- Madeline Saunders tacked on 18 assists against Utica, her seventh game with double figure helpers this year.
