HOUGHTON, N.Y. (nazathletics.com) - Nazareth Women's Volleyball (3-23, 3-8) concluded its 2025 season with a 3-0 loss at Houghton (12-11, 6-4), Saturday afternoon inside the Nielsen Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Nazareth fell behind early after a strong opening run from Houghton, struggling to find rhythm offensively in the first set. Despite late kills from Leah Fusilli and Sarah Harvey and a few key defensive blocks, Nazareth couldn't overcome the early deficit, dropping the opener 25-16.
- Nazareth started the second set with energy, jumping out to an 8-4 lead behind solid serving and attacking from Fusilli and Alana Lucey. However, Houghton responded with a long run midway through the frame, and despite Nazareth's persistence and balanced scoring, the Golden Flyers couldn't reclaim momentum, falling 25-18.
- The third set was tightly contested early, with Nazareth trading points and leading 7-4 at one stage. Houghton then surged ahead with efficient attacking and a series of service aces that swung the set decisively. Nazareth's defense fought hard, but the hosts closed out the match 25-13 to complete the sweep.
MATCH NOTES
- Jenna Mattison led the Golden Flyers with 10 digs in her final collegiate match, along with three assists and two aces.
- Leah Fusilli tacked on eight kills, eight digs and one service ace for a team-best nine points.
- Alana Lucey chipped in four blocks, three kills and two digs for five points.
