ITHACA, N.Y. -- Nazareth freshman
Taylor Pierson won the Empire 8 title in the women's long jump Saturday as the Golden Flyers' men's and women's track and field teams competed at the E8 Championship meet at Ithaca College's Glazer Arena.
Pierson set a school record with a winning leap of 5.46 meters (17 feet, 11 inches) and helped the Golden Flyers to a fourth-place finish in the team standings with 41 points. Ithaca was the runaway winner with 199, followed by Stevens (76), Utica (68), Nazareth (41), St. John Fisher (32), Houghton (30) and Alfred (17).
Nazareth finished fifth in the men's competition with 37 points.Ithaca was first (142), followed by Stevens (106), Utica (81), St. John Fisher (54), Nazareth (37), Alfred (31) and Houghton (12).
Pierson also finished third for Nazareth in the 200-meter dash with a time of :27.24 seconds and fifth in the 60-meter dash (8.23). Pierson was also part of Nazareth's conference champion in the 4 x 400-meter relay that included senior
Keaghlan Morrissey and sophomores
Michaela Gildemeyer and
Hannah Brackley. The winning time was 4:10.85.
Other top performers included Brackley, who placed third in the 400-meter dash (1:00.75) and ninth in the 200-meter dash (27.65); freshman
Amanda Entress, who finished fourth in the long jump (5.11 meters); Gildemeyer and junior
Lauren Heitzhaus, who placed fifth and sixth respectively in the 800-meter run with times of 2:27.50 and 2:27.83; freshman
Sibongile Chisi, who was seventh in the pole vault with a height of 2.70 meters (8 feet, 10 1/4 inches); and seniors
Lauren Jamieson and
Kelsey Ryan who placed seventh in the mile (5:33.45) and the 5,000-meter run (20:01.86) respectively.
In the men's competition, freshman
Khiary Gayle won the triple jump with a distance of 13.67 meters (44 feet, 10 1/4 inches) and junior
Jake Lafaver won the 400-meter dash (:51.56). Senior
Philip Schierer finished fourth in the 400 (:52.38). Lafaver also finished fifth in the 800-meter run (2:02.71).
Other top performers included Gayle, who also placed fifth in the long jump (6.19 meters); junior
Matt Fedrizzi, who finished fifth in the mile (4:36.24); and freshman
Brandon Vuolo, who finished sixth in the weight throw (11.86 meters).
