ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Golden Flyers fell to visiting Union, 3-2, in a double overtime men's soccer match Tuesday night on Nazareth's artificial turf field. The loss drops Nazareth to 5-3 overall while Union improves to 6-2 overall.

Union rallied from a 2-0 deficit, scoring twice in the last 10 minutes of regulation play, and getting the winning goal in the second overtime period. Union's Will Poetzsch scored his first season goal in the 107th minute off an assist from Nick Vozzella to win the game for the Dutchmen.

In the first half, Nazareth was controlling the offensive play with eight shots to Union's four. There were many scoring opportunities for the Golden Flyers, including the goal by junior Luke Elston in the 24th minute of play. A Dutchmen defender received a pass back from the midfield, then Elston was able to stick a foot in and break it up. After stripping the Union defenders, Elston was able to beat the goalkeeper Ryan Carter on a low slotted shot. The goal was the eighth of the season for Elston.

Going in the second half the Golden Flyers were up by one until Nazareth was awarded a free kick from about 25 yards out. Junior James Wheeler stepped up to take the kick, resulting in a goal to put the Golden Flyers up by two in the 71st minute of play. Only ten minutes later, Union's Sam Hunter scored off an assist from Kevin Janson. Another six minutes later the Dutchmen scored again when Nick Vozzella passed the ball to Sebastiaan Jansen, who fired the ball under the crossbar, forcing the game into overtime.

That set the stage for the game-winning score, which came when Poetzsch one-timed a crossing pass from Vozzella from about 15 yards in front of the Nazareth goal. Nazareth keeper #J.P. Horan#, who had six saves in the game, had no chance on the game-winning shot.
