ELMIRA, NY - An early goal from Elmira was enough to defeat the Golden Flyers in this Empire 8 Quarterfinal matchup on Saturday afternoon. Nazareth generated 13 shots to Elmira's nine but a strong performance from the Elmira goalkeeper was able to hold them off the score sheet and end the Golden Flyers season.  

How It Happened:

• It was a fairly even beginning to the game, as both teams had a few shots on goal. Nazareth had the edge with two early corners but were unable to convert. 

• In the 13th minute, Elmira would take a 1-0 lead with a low shot coming right in front of the goalkeeper.

• Two minutes later, it looked like Elmira would take a two goal lead but the play was blown dead for offsides and the score would stay 1-0 in favor of Elmira.

• In the 30th minute, Tyler Warmington created a great opportunity to tie the game from the right side of the box after making an impressive move around a defender, but his shot just missed over the crossbar. 

• Both teams finished with five shots at the end of the first half.

• The second half started slow as just three shots were generated through the first 20 minutes. 

• The Golden Flyers picked it up shortly after, generating chances at the goal but Elmira was able to keep them scoreless. 

• Despite the strong push, the game would end 1-0 and send Elmira to the Empire 8 Semifinals.
