Golden Flyers finish opening weekend 2-0

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- After Brockport tied the game 2-2 midway through the second half, Nazareth scored two goals in the final 13:14 of regulation to win its second game of the Doug May Classic, hosted by RIT. Five of Saturday's six goals were scored in the second half of the Golden Flyers' non-conference victory. Junior Luke Elston's game-winning goal was scored just 46 seconds after the Golden Eagles had tied the match.

With the victory, the Golden Flyers improve to 2-0 overall. Brockport slips to 1-1 overall following the loss.

Junior Simon Mounsdon set up Elston's decisive game-winning goal. The Golden Flyers secured the victory with an insurance goal with 2:39 to play in the game. Junior Ryan Foley recorded the unassisted goal in the final minutes to provide Nazareth with the two-goal victory.

Elston opened the scoring late in the first half after receiving a pass from Foley. Between the Golden Flyers' two weekend contests, Elston has amassed four goals. Nazareth stretched its lead to two goals in the 65th minute following a goal by freshman Anthony Calarco. Elston also assisted on Calarco's goal.

The Golden Eagles scored twice in under six minutes to temporarily tie the score before the Golden Flyers' final two goals. Paul Altobelli and Bobby Ross tallied Brockport's respective goals. Peter DiLorenzo assisted on Altobelli's goal, which came in the 71st minute. Nick Tata was credited with an assist on Ross' goal, which Ross scored minutes later.

Nazareth finished with a 15-14 edge in total shots. Brockport had a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks. Sophomore goalie #J.P. Horan# recorded a game-high seven saves to earn the victory for the Golden Flyers. Horan had six saves in the second period to thwart the Golden Eagles' rally attempt. Max Drexler recorded four saves in Brockport's net in the loss.

Nazareth hosts Oswego in a non-conference match on September 8th at 3 p.m. in its next game.
