ITHACA, N.Y. -- Freshman
Dan Burke and junior
Tim Rappold turned in record-breaking swims for Nazareth Saturday as action continued at the Bomber Invitational for men's and women's swimming and diving. Through Saturday's evening session, Nazareth's men's team was in eighth place in the 11-team field with 311 points. Cornell was the runaway leader with 1388.5 points. In the women's meet, Nazareth was in seventh place with 450 points. Cornell also was first with 1277 points.
Burke paced the men's team with a fourth-place finish in the 100 backstroke with a school record time of :52.58. He broke a mark of :53.53 that has been held by Jeff McCormack since 1999. Rappold, meanwhile, finished 12th in the 400 IM with a time of 4:22.80, breaking the previous record of 4:24.05, set by Josh Nellist in 2001.
Other top finishes for the men's team included a 10th-place finish for senior
Jacob Kline in the 100 butterfly (:53.16) and a 15th-place finish by
Mike Bidwell in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.85). Nazareth also got a fifth-place finish from its 400 medley relay (3:35.68) that consisted of Burke, Rappold, Kline and Bidwell.
The Golden Flyers also were eighth in the 800 free relay (7:13.44) with the team of Bidwell, Burke,
Justin Sawran and Kline.
In the women's meet, Nazareth's 400 medley relay team of
Maura Reissig,
Carissa Risucci,
McKenna Murphy and
Emily Sauter finished fifth in 4:01.63. Risucci also finished third in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.77), while Reissig was seventh in the 100 backstroke (1:00.57),
The women's team also got a 10th-place finish from
Rachel House in the 400 IM (4:46.26) and a 16th-place finish from
Emma Dorschel in the 200 freestyle (2:00.88). Nazareth also was eighth in the 200 free relay (1:42.58) with the team of Reissig,
Karisa Kobel, Murphy and Sauter.
