Nazareth dominates SLU, 185-78

CANTON, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth won all 16 events Saturday in a men's swimming and diving meet at St. Lawrence as the Golden Flyers evened their dual meet record at 1-1 with a 185-78 romp over the Saints. Nazareth also won easily in the women's meet, dominating the Saints 179-108 to improve to 2-0.

In the men's meet, senior Jacob Kline, junior Tim Rappold and freshman Dan Burke each were part of four winning events to spearhead the victory. Kline won the 200 freestyle (1:52.88), the 50 freestyle (:22.83) and the 100 fly (:56.01) and swam on the 200 medley relay (1:44.01) along with Burke Rappold and senior Mike Bidwell.

Rappold captured both breaststroke events (1:07.08 in the 100 and 2:25.40 in the 200) and was on two winning relays. In addition to the 200 medley relay, Nazareth won the 200 free relay with freshman Sean Doyle along with Rappold and juniors Justin Sawran and Bryan Geary.

Sawran also won both distance freestyles -- the 1,000 in 10:44.95 and the 500 in 5:14.51. Burke was first in both backstrokes (:56.08 in the 100 and 2:02.44 in the 200) as well as the 200 IM (2:06.34). Geary also won the 200 fly (2:13.20) and Bidwell won the 100 free (:50.66). Freshman Jeff Green won both diving events for the Golden Flyers, scoring 185.30 on the 1-meter board and 199.45 on the 3-meter.

In the women's meet, Nazareth dominated by winning 12 of the 16 events with senior Carissa Risucci winning both breaststrokes (1:09.77 in the 100 and 2:29.22 in the 200) in addition to the 200 IM (2:20.04) and the 200 medley relay (1:55.41) with juniors Maura Reissig, Karissa Kobel and Emily Sauter.

Sauter won the 50 and 200 freestyles in :25.88 and 2:05.76 respectively. In addition the medley relay, Sauter swam on the winning 200 free relay (1:45.61) with Reissig, Kobel and senior McKenna Murphy.

Sophomore Kristen Vitale won both butterflies, going 1:05.11 in the 100 and 2:23.89 in the 200. Freshman Kimberly Pedrotti was a winner in the 1,000 freestyle (11:20.23). Sophomore Sarah Lopez captured both diving events with scores of 164.20 on the 1-meter and 165.30 on the 3-meter board.

Nazareth swims at home Friday against Brockport at 5:30 p.m.
