Empire 8 Weekly Release
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Three student athletes have received Empire 8 weekly recognition this week following some incredible performances for the Golden Flyers. Honorees include
Isabel Morse from women's track and field,
Morgan Russo from softball, and
Lincoln Crosby from men's golf.
Isabel Morse - Empire 8 Women's Field Athlete of the Week
Morse was named Empire 8's Field Athlete of the Week after yet another personal best score in pole vault. Morse took third place overall at the University of Rochester on Saturday with a personal best height of 3.81 meters, which was the top score among DIII Athletes at the meet.
Morse and the rest of Nazareth's track and field team will be back in action on April 26th at 10 a.m. up the road at St. John Fisher.
Morgan Russo - Empire 8 Softball Player of the Week
Russo was named Empire 8's Softball Athlete of the Week after a .714 week at the plate. Over the course of the week, Russo had a grand total of four homers, two doubles, and 11 RBIs. In the double header against Geneseo, Russo went 2-3 in the first game and 3-5 in the second. In the 9-4 loss, Russo scored two of Nazareth's runs. In the 17-15 win, Russo went 3-5 from the plate and scored Nazareth's first tying run of the game at 3-3 in the third inning. Across the two games, Russo played first base, tallying 15 putouts.
In the first 5-inning 17-3 win over Brockport, Russo went 4-4 from the plate including three homers, the third of which was a grand slam. In the 10-2 win in the second game, Russo went 1-2 from the plate, her one hit being a two-run home run. Once again at first, Russo had 13 putouts total.
Russo and the rest of the Golden Flyers will be back on the field on April 21st at 3 and 5 p.m. at Keuka.
Lincoln Crosby - Empire 8 Men's Golf Player of the Week
Crosby was named Empire 8's Player of the Week for Men's Golf after a first place finish at the Empire 8 Championship tournament. Rounds one and two were played in the fall season, and Crosby shot the lowest score of all Empire 8 athletes
in rounds three and four over the weekend, his score a 147 (+3). Crosby's rounds this past weekend secured him the top spot with a total score of 302.
Crosby and the rest of the golf team are back in action on April 21st for Nazareth's Spring Invitational.
